It's always a new day, with new possibilities. Thankfully, there is also sameness. For 26 years, I have been going to my studio to work with clay. For the same span, I have been teaching pottery to folks who have an interest in this material and how it responds to pushing, pinching, and pulling. The fact that clay is malleable is endlessly compelling. I’ve been hooked since I threw my first pot at age 12.

My forms and designs evolve over time, yet I’m still making functional stoneware, including serving bowls, platters, pitchers, teapots, vases, lamps, and much more.

I’m growing and learning and appreciating the discoveries that bring me back to my wheel and that stretch me creatively. I carve grasses, dancing people, and trees onto the surfaces; applying thick slip to some pots creates a softer, fluid surface that is inviting.

My goal is to simplify the process in general, to focus on the parts that I enjoy, and to motivate me in this unwieldy business of art-making. I’m grateful for my customers and students who encourage me. Apart from the mysteries of clay, glass forming, and fire, it is all about you!
