Sarah Grace Cheek is an artist and woodworker based in Earlysville, Virginia. She holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she focused in furniture and textile design. After leading a production-style woodshop for 4-plus years, Sarah Grace made the transition in the summer of 2022 to pursue being an artist full time. Her work centers around nourishment, usefulness, and joy.

Sarah Grace uses hand-carving and power-carving techniques in conjunction with the lathe to create most of her work.

Recently, she’s started venturing into the realm of more representational art and exploring relief carvings. Some of her inspirations include bones, rocks, bark, scavenged and salvaged materials, and antique textiles. Crafting reimagined adaptations of items reveals observations of herself and her perceived reality. For Sarah Grace, creating is an exercise where mind and body work in unison, and is a dance of muscle memory and spontaneity.
