Steven Hamm
A Charlottesville native, I began working at a goldsmith's bench as an apprentice at age 17 and immediately knew I had found my calling.
Over the ensuing decades, I developed an affinity for precision sculptural designs utilizing the lost-wax process, and I have since carved thousands of wax models to cast in precious metals that I adorn with gemstones. Yet, I still relish the challenge of creating exactly what I imagine from the raw materials at hand. With inspiration drawn from an appreciation of the sublime in the everyday, most of my pieces are one of a kind, and all feature an exceptional attention to detail.
In addition to crafting my own designs, I enjoy working with my clients to create personalized works of art destined to become family heirlooms. For these collaborative custom designs, I involve my client in each step of the process as I create a sketch embodying the concept, then carve a wax model from which the final piece will be cast in gold or platinum.
Whether working with a client or free to follow my own inspiration, each piece embodies both my passion for the creative process and the extensive skills I have developed over the decades.
